Clean steel components with Oven Pride

All suitable parts lined up and soaked in Oven Pride overnight - cleaned off next days with hot soapy water.

Last pedal off and bottom bracket assembly removal

Cotter pin press

Cotter pin removal aided using a press purchased from company in Minneapolis.

Raleigh Heron badge removal and clean up

Raleigh Heron badge attached by small rivets. Tricky to remove without breaking the badge !

Top and bottom head cup removal

Long metal stick, a mallet and off they popped

Hub Dismantle

Disassembly of hub. Removal of spoke protector.

The hub comes up a treat with degreaser and 0000 grade steel wool.

Rear wheel disassembly and clean

Rear rim looks saveable. With some steel wool and alloy cleaner, it comes up quite well. Front rim is another matter.

Removal of hub from rear wheel

Established the date off the rear wheel hub. Says "1974 3". Conclusively March 1974. Rear wheel rim needs replaced, but want to keep the hub ! Went wild with spoke cutters.
